# Do I Need a PPC Agency? An Honest Way to Decide

You need a PPC agency or consultant when your ads cost more than they return, you can't tell which campaigns make money, or nobody senior is watching the account. If your ads are already profitable and you understand the numbers, you may not need one at all — and an honest consultant will tell you so.

## What a PPC agency or consultant actually does

A good one does three things: makes sure every pound of ad spend is measured properly, moves budget to what actually converts, and keeps testing so results improve over time. The value isn't "running ads" — anyone can switch campaigns on. It's the judgement about where the money should go and why.

## Signs you probably do need help

- **Your cost per lead or sale has crept up** and you can't explain why.
- **You can't tell which campaigns are making money** and which are just spending it.
- **You don't trust the conversion numbers** — or you're not sure anything is being tracked at all.
- **You inherited a messy account** from a previous agency and nobody has cleaned it up.
- **Performance Max is spending** and you have no idea what it's actually doing.
- **No one senior looks at it.** It's on autopilot, or handed to a junior who changes little.

## Signs you probably don't

This is the part most agencies won't say out loud:

- **Your ads are profitable and stable**, and you can see that clearly in the numbers.
- **You understand the account** and have the time to keep on top of it.
- **Your account is small and simple** — a single campaign a competent owner can manage.
- If that's you, paying a monthly fee may cost more than it adds. A quick [free health check](/free-google-ads-audit/) will tell you either way.

## Agency, consultant, or in-house?

A big agency gives you scale and a team, but your account is often run day-to-day by a junior while the senior people are in the pitch meetings. An independent consultant means the senior person is the one actually in your account — less overhead, more direct. In-house works once your spend is big enough to justify a full-time hire. For most small and mid-sized advertisers, the honest answer is a senior consultant, because you get the experience without paying for the agency machine around it.

## Not sure? Don't guess

You don't have to decide in the dark. Start with a free health check of your account — it will tell you whether anything is actually wrong and whether outside help would pay for itself. If you do decide to hire, the questions worth asking are in my guide on how to choose a Google Ads agency. Either way, the goal is a clear-eyed decision, not a sale.

## Find out if you actually need help

A free health check gives you an honest answer — including "your ads are fine, save your money" if that's the truth.
