Why most Google Ads accounts underperform

I’ve audited hundreds of accounts over 12 years. The pattern is always the same: setup was fine five years ago, but Google’s changed, your market’s changed, your ads haven’t. Budgets leak into keywords that don’t convert. Bids are set once and left. Negative keywords are an afterthought. Extensions are missing. Your account looks alive on the surface—ad groups, keywords, copy—but it’s not doing the work.

Most agencies pile junior staff on accounts and pray. They invoice margin, not performance. You need someone who knows Google Ads deeply enough to spot waste in five minutes and fix it without a three-month project.

What senior PPC management actually looks like

I manage your account like it’s my own. Weekly bid and budget adjustments based on performance, not set-and-forget. I read search terms religiously. I rebuild keyword structure when the data tells me it’s needed, not because a process demands it. I know when to turn off underperforming keywords and when to dig deeper. I use extensions the right way. I catch tracking gaps before they cost you money.

I work as your fractional head of paid search. You’re not managing consultants; I’m managing your account. No account manager in between. No juniors learning on your budget.

Growth PPC — proof of the model

I’m a senior partner at Growth PPC, a managed-services agency running £20M+ in annual ad spend across dozens of clients. We don’t hire account coordinators. Senior consultants only. Peak ROAS across the portfolio: 20.8x. This is what happens when you treat paid search as a craft, not a headcount game.

Frequently asked questions

What does managed PPC cost?

From £300/month. That covers up to £3,000/month in ad spend. Above that, it’s 10% of ad spend. So £5,000/month ad spend = £500/month management. You pay Google directly; I handle the optimisation.

Do you work with clients in Cleethorpes and East Yorkshire?

Yes, I’m UK-wide and remote. I’ve managed accounts for ecommerce, home services, trades, and professional services businesses across the UK—including teams in East Yorkshire. No travel required; we work via email, calls, and dashboards.

What if I want to take the account back or switch agencies?

You own the Google Ads account. I access it on your behalf, but you control the login, billing, and permissions. If you want to move or go in-house, you can do that any month. No lock-in.

How long before I see results?

If your account is broken, I’ll spot waste and fix it in the first week. You’ll see performance shifts within 2–3 weeks. If it’s already solid, we’ll optimise incrementally. Every account is different.

Do you manage accounts for ecommerce or services?

Both. I specialise in ecommerce and direct-to-consumer, and also in home services and trades. The principles are the same: clear conversion tracking, ruthless keyword hygiene, bid precision. The application varies by niche.

Can I scale ad spend if things are working?

Yes. If your account is healthy and converting well, we’ll gradually increase budget to capture more of the market. I’ll make sure bids and keyword structure keep pace with spend.
