What a proper Google Ads audit actually covers

Most ‘audits’ are thinly disguised sales tools. You get a traffic-light PDF showing everything red, a pitch for ongoing management, and not much else.

A proper audit is a diagnostic. It tells you what’s wrong, why it’s wrong, and what to do about it — in enough detail that you could act on it yourself if you wanted to. That’s what I deliver.

With 12 years in Google Ads and over £2M in ad spend managed directly, I’ve seen the same mistakes repeated across hundreds of accounts. An audit gives you a clear map of where your budget is leaking and where the real opportunities are sitting unused.

What the audit covers

No obligation. No upsell built in.

The audit is a fixed, standalone piece of work. At the end you’ll have a clear report with prioritised recommendations. Whether you act on it yourself, hand it to your agency, or engage me to help implement it — that’s entirely your call. I’m not going to pressure you either way.

Why Worcestershire businesses ask for audits

The most common reason is a nagging sense that performance should be better. Spend has been ticking along, leads are coming in, but something doesn’t add up — the cost per enquiry feels too high, or a competitor seems to be getting more visibility despite a similar budget.

The second most common reason is a change in circumstances. A new product range, a new service area covering West Midlands or Herefordshire, or a switch from one agency to another. Before you scale or hand over the account, knowing exactly what you’ve got is sensible.

Occasionally it’s simpler than that: an account has been running on autopilot for a year and nobody has looked properly at what it’s actually doing.

How the audit process works

  1. Briefing callWe talk through your business, your goals, and what you’re expecting the audit to surface. This shapes where I focus the analysis.
  2. Account accessYou grant read-only access to your Google Ads account and, where relevant, Google Analytics and Google Merchant Centre.
  3. Full diagnostic reviewI work through the account methodically — structure, keywords, copy, bidding, tracking, search terms — and document every issue and opportunity I find.
  4. Findings and recommendationsYou receive a clear, written report with prioritised recommendations. I walk you through it on a follow-up call so nothing is left ambiguous.

Covering the full Worcestershire region

I conduct audits for businesses based across Worcestershire — including Worcester, Redditch, Kidderminster, Bromsgrove, Droitwich Spa, Evesham, Malvern, and Pershore — as well as businesses serving customers across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, and the West Midlands.

All audit work is delivered remotely. You don’t need to be in any particular location for this to work, and the depth of analysis is identical regardless of where your business is based.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Google Ads audit cost?

Audit pricing depends on the size and complexity of your account. I don’t publish fixed prices because a small account and a large multi-campaign account require very different amounts of work. Book a call and I’ll give you a clear quote once I understand what you’ve got.

What do I get at the end of the audit?

A written report with prioritised findings and specific recommendations — not a generic checklist. You’ll also get a call to walk through the findings so you understand exactly what to do and why.

Do I have to sign up for ongoing management afterwards?

No. The audit is a standalone piece of work. Some clients do go on to work with me on an ongoing basis, but there’s no obligation. You’re free to act on the recommendations yourself, hand them to your existing agency, or do nothing — that’s your business.

My account is managed by an agency. Can you audit it?

Yes, and this is one of the most valuable uses of an audit. You get an independent view on whether your agency is making the right decisions. I’ll need read-only access to the account — your agency doesn’t need to be involved in granting that.

Can you audit accounts targeting areas outside Worcestershire?

Yes. Many businesses in Worcestershire run campaigns targeting the West Midlands, Herefordshire, Shropshire, and beyond. The audit covers the full account regardless of geographic targeting.

How is conversion tracking included in the audit?

Tracking is one of the most commonly broken things in Google Ads accounts and one of the most important to get right. The audit checks whether your conversions are being recorded accurately, whether there’s duplication, and whether the conversion actions you’re optimising toward actually match your business goals.
