When to hire a consultant

You’ve already got someone running your ads — maybe an agency, a junior, or your own team. But something feels off. Either the spend isn’t returning, or you don’t trust the person steering. You need a senior voice in the room. That’s where I come in.

What I do as a consultant

The straight line

I’m blunt. If your ads are fine, I’ll say so. If they’re broken and fixable, I’ll tell you how. If they’re broken and you’re not ready to fix them, I’ll say that too. I don’t sell you extra work you don’t need.

Consulting vs full management

If you need someone hands-on every day rebuilding your account, that’s management (see the agency page). Consulting is for when you have people in place but need strategic advice, confidence, or external rigour. I give you the clarity to make decisions, then usually your team runs with it.

A typical consulting engagement

  1. Scope callYou tell me what’s bothering you. I ask questions to understand your setup, team, and goals.
  2. Deep auditI log into your account, review campaigns, keywords, tracking, and performance data. I also speak to whoever’s running it now.
  3. RecommendationWritten summary of what’s working, what isn’t, and the exact next moves. Usually delivered in 2–3 weeks.
  4. Optional: Ongoing adviceMonthly or quarterly check-ins to refine strategy, coach your team, or pressure-test decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work with agencies or teams?

Yes. I’ve advised agencies, in-house teams, and freelancers. I’m impartial. If your current person is doing great, I’ll say so. If they’re not, I’ll help you fix it or find someone better.

What does a consulting engagement cost?

From £300/month for ongoing advisory, but most projects are quoted per scope. Audits, strategy builds, and fractional leadership vary. Call me and we’ll talk about your specific need.

Can I hire you just for an audit?

Absolutely. You get a written audit, recommendations, and a call to discuss. No obligation to hire me again. Depending on complexity, I’ll quote you on a call.

I'm in Barrow — can you work with my local team?

I’m remote, so I don’t visit. But I work with teams everywhere — Barrow, Cumbria, anywhere in the UK. Phone calls, email, screen shares. Same level of rigor.

How long does an audit usually take?

1–2 weeks depending on account complexity. Smaller accounts, 5–7 days. Messy accounts with lots of campaigns, 2–3 weeks. I’ll give you a timeline upfront.

What if I disagree with your recommendations?

That’s fine. I’m here to advise, not force. But I’ll explain my reasoning and ask you to challenge it. Usually, disagreement means we need to dig deeper.

Need a second opinion on your Google Ads?

Call me. We'll discuss what's not working, what you need, and whether consulting is the right fit. No charge for the initial conversation.
