What a proper Google Ads audit looks like

Most Google Ads audits are either auto-generated reports dressed up as expert analysis, or a vague document full of observations with no clear actions. Neither is useful.

A PPC audit from me is a direct, structured review of your actual account — carried out manually by a senior consultant with 12 years’ experience across Search, Shopping, and Performance Max campaigns. I look at how your money is being spent, what’s generating returns, what’s quietly burning budget, and whether your conversion tracking is actually measuring what you think it is.

I work with businesses across North Yorkshire and the wider region — from Harrogate and York to Scarborough, Skipton, and Northallerton — remotely, with no need for in-person meetings.

What the audit covers

No obligation, no up-sell pressure

The audit is a standalone piece of work. You get a clear report with specific findings. If you want to engage me for ongoing management or consulting after that, great — but there’s no pressure and no expectation. Some clients just want the audit.

Who gets the most value from a PPC audit

A Google Ads audit makes most sense in a few specific situations. You’ve been running ads for a while but can’t clearly explain what’s working and what isn’t. You’ve just taken over an account from someone else — an agency or a previous manager — and you want to know what state it’s in before you touch anything. You have a gut feeling your budget isn’t being used well but you don’t have the technical background to diagnose it yourself.

Across North Yorkshire there are a significant number of SMEs running Google Ads in-house or through small agencies without the benefit of a senior-level review. A one-off audit is often the most cost-effective way to identify the biggest problems quickly.

I also regularly audit accounts for businesses in neighbouring areas — West Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, County Durham, South Yorkshire — so if you’re based near the county boundary, that’s no barrier.

How the audit process works

  1. Initial callWe have a brief call to understand your business, your goals, and what you already know about your account’s performance. This helps me focus on what matters most.
  2. Account accessYou grant me read-only access to your Google Ads account. No changes are made during the audit — I’m reviewing, not touching.
  3. Manual reviewI work through the account systematically — campaign structure, keywords, search terms, bidding, ads, extensions, and tracking. This is done manually, not via automated tools.
  4. Written report and callYou receive a written report covering findings and specific recommendations, followed by a call to walk through it and answer questions.

Pricing for an audit

Audit fees vary depending on account size and complexity. I don’t publish a fixed price because a one-campaign account and a twenty-campaign account with Shopping, Search, and Performance Max require very different amounts of work.

For a tailored quote, the fastest route is a short call. There’s no charge for that call, and you’ll have a clear number before any commitment is made.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Google Ads audit take?

It depends on account size and complexity. We discuss timelines on the initial call so you have a clear expectation before we start. I don’t publish fixed timeframes because accounts vary significantly.

Do you audit accounts for North Yorkshire businesses specifically?

Yes — I work with businesses across North Yorkshire regularly, including those in York, Harrogate, Scarborough, Skipton, Northallerton, and the surrounding areas. Everything is done remotely so location is no constraint.

Will you make changes to my account during the audit?

No. The audit is read-only. I review what’s there and document findings without altering anything. Any changes that come out of the audit are yours to implement, or mine to implement if you engage me for management afterwards.

What if the audit shows my account is performing well?

Then I’ll tell you that. A good audit is honest, not engineered to find problems that justify further work. If your account is well-structured and your tracking is clean, that’s a useful thing to know too.

Can I get an audit if I'm using an agency?

Yes. An independent audit is often most valuable precisely when you’re already paying an agency and want an objective view of what they’re doing. You can share the findings with your agency or use them as a basis for a conversation about performance.

Do you audit Microsoft Ads (Bing) accounts too?

Yes. If you’re running activity on Microsoft Ads as well as Google, I can include that in scope. We’d discuss what’s relevant on the initial call.
