What a Google Ads audit actually is — and what it isn't

A PPC audit is a structured, independent review of your Google Ads account. It’s not a sales pitch. It’s not a vague list of ‘opportunities’. It’s a clear-eyed look at what’s wasting your budget, where your tracking is broken or unreliable, and what structural issues are quietly suppressing performance.

I’m Stevie Morris — a freelance Google Ads consultant with 12 years’ experience and over £2M in ad spend managed directly. I’ve audited accounts that looked fine on the surface but had fundamental problems underneath. I’ve also audited accounts that were genuinely well-run and said so.

If you’re spending money on Google Ads in Berkshire and you’re not sure whether it’s working properly, a one-off audit is the most efficient way to find out.

What the audit covers

No scare tactics. No invented problems.

Some audits are written to make your account look terrible so you feel you need to hire someone. I write audits that tell you what’s actually wrong — and what isn’t. If your account is in decent shape, you’ll hear that. If there are real problems costing you money, you’ll get a clear picture of what they are and what to do about them.

Why Berkshire advertisers particularly benefit from an audit

Berkshire sits in the London commuter belt. Google Ads CPCs here reflect London-level competition — businesses in Reading, Slough, Windsor, Bracknell, and Newbury are often competing against national brands and well-funded London operators.

When clicks are expensive, structural inefficiencies cost more. Paying for irrelevant clicks hurts more when each click costs £3–£10. An audit in a high-CPC market like Berkshire often identifies savings that are proportionally larger than in lower-competition regions.

Nearby counties — Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Hampshire — face similar pressures. If you’re running ads across that wider area, the audit covers the full account regardless of geographic targeting.

How the audit process works

  1. Request a callWe talk through your account, your goals, and what you’re concerned about. I’ll confirm whether an audit is the right starting point.
  2. Access and reviewYou grant read-only access to your Google Ads account. I conduct a thorough, structured review — no automated scan, no generic output.
  3. Written findingsYou receive a clear written report: what’s wrong, why it matters, and what to do about it. Prioritised by impact.
  4. Debrief callWe walk through the findings together so you understand everything and can ask questions. No obligation to work with me after that.

Pricing and next steps

Audit pricing is quoted on a call — it depends on account complexity, number of campaigns, and scope. There’s no obligation to engage ongoing management afterwards. The audit is a standalone piece of work.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to hire you for ongoing management after the audit?

No. The audit is a standalone piece of work. Some clients take the findings and implement changes themselves, some hand them to their existing agency, and some choose to work with me ongoing. That’s entirely up to you.

How is your audit different from a free audit offered by an agency?

Free audits from agencies are typically sales tools — structured to make your account look worse than it is so you feel compelled to hire them. A paid, independent audit has no agenda except to tell you what’s actually going on.

My Google Ads account is based in Berkshire — can you audit it remotely?

Yes. Everything is done remotely. You grant read-only access to your account, and I conduct the review without needing to be on-site. Most of my clients across Berkshire and the surrounding counties work with me entirely remotely.

What size of account is the audit suited to?

The audit is most useful for accounts with at least a few months of data and some meaningful spend history to analyse. If you’re just starting out with Google Ads, a strategy consultation might be more appropriate — we can figure that out on the call.

What happens if my account turns out to be in good shape?

I’ll tell you. That’s a genuinely good outcome — you get confirmation that your spend is well-managed and you know what to keep doing. An honest audit is worth having regardless of the result.
