When you need a PPC expert, not another agency

There’s a version of PPC consultancy that means sitting in on a call, nodding at a slide deck, and leaving the business exactly where it started. That’s not what I do.

I’m Stevie Morris — a freelance PPC consultant with 12 years running Google Ads campaigns, £2M+ in ad spend managed directly, and Google Partner and Microsoft Ads certified. I work with businesses in Greater Manchester and across the UK who already have ads running — whether internally, through an agency, or through a junior — and who want someone senior to assess, challenge, or improve what’s happening.

Sometimes that means a one-off second opinion. Sometimes it means ongoing strategic input — what targets to set, what campaigns to add, what the account structure should look like. Sometimes it means coaching the person already running the account. Whatever the shape, the output is a clearer picture of what your Google Ads should be doing and whether they’re doing it.

Types of PPC consultancy I provide

Why 'senior' actually matters in PPC

The difference between a junior and a senior PPC operator isn’t just experience — it’s the decisions they make under uncertainty. A junior will follow a checklist. A senior will read the data, question the strategy, and change course when something isn’t working.

With 12 years managing Google Ads — across ecommerce, D2C, home services, and trades — I’ve seen most of what can go wrong with a Google Ads account. Inflated impression share from low-quality competitors. Shopping feeds that look fine but have attribute errors tanking performance. Smart Bidding targets set too aggressively and never walked back. Conversion tracking recording form loads instead of submissions.

These aren’t exotic problems — they’re common. And they’re the kind of thing a second pair of senior eyes tends to spot quickly.

I won't tell you to spend more if you don't need to

Some consultants are incentivised to recommend higher budgets. I’m not. If your current spend level is appropriate and the issue is structure or targeting, that’s what I’ll say. If I think you’re underspending relative to the opportunity, I’ll explain the logic and let you decide. Greater Manchester has a competitive paid search landscape — but more spend isn’t always the answer.

How a consultancy engagement typically works

  1. Initial consultationWe talk through your situation — what’s running, what the issues are, what you’re trying to achieve. I’ll ask direct questions and give you an honest read on whether I can help.
  2. Account reviewI look at your current Google Ads account — structure, keywords, bids, ads, tracking, search terms. I’ll identify the specific problems and opportunities.
  3. RecommendationsClear, prioritised recommendations. Not a 40-page report full of screenshots — a concise list of what to change and why, in order of impact.
  4. Implementation supportI can either hand over the recommendations for your team to implement, or stay involved to guide or review the work as it happens. That’s a conversation we’ll have based on what you need.

Greater Manchester's paid search landscape

Greater Manchester is one of the UK’s largest and most competitive regional economies — and that’s reflected in Google Ads. Search CPCs across home services, legal, financial, and ecommerce categories are significant, and competition from both local businesses and national brands bidding geographically means poor account structure gets punished faster here than in smaller markets.

For businesses operating across the region — or serving customers from West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, and Derbyshire — smart geo-targeting and localised ad copy can meaningfully affect cost efficiency. These aren’t generic best practices; they’re decisions that need to be made with your specific cost-per-acquisition targets in mind.

I work with businesses in Greater Manchester on exactly this kind of strategic detail. If you want someone who understands the regional context as well as the technical mechanics, book a call.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a PPC consultant and a PPC agency?

An agency manages your campaigns operationally — building, running, and optimising on an ongoing basis. A consultant advises: strategy, direction, second opinions, coaching. Some clients need one, some need the other, and some need both. I can tell you which is right for your situation on a call.

Can you work alongside my existing agency or in-house team?

Yes. Fractional consultancy is specifically designed for this. I can review their work, challenge their strategy, and give you an independent view on whether the account is being managed well — without displacing the team already in place.

How much does PPC consultancy cost?

Ongoing support starts from £300/month. For one-off engagements or ad hoc reviews, the best approach is to book a call and I’ll give you a clear quote based on what’s involved.

I'm in Greater Manchester — do you work locally or remotely?

Fully remote. All consultancy is conducted via video call, screen share, and shared access to your account. This is how I work with clients across the UK, and it works well. Location doesn’t affect the quality of the work.

I think my agency might not be doing a good job — how do you handle that conversation?

Carefully and honestly. I’ll review the account objectively and tell you what I find. Sometimes agencies are doing a decent job in a difficult market. Sometimes they’re not. I’ll give you an honest assessment — not a sales pitch designed to win the management contract.

Do you offer one-off strategy sessions?

Yes. If you need a structured conversation about your PPC strategy — campaign planning, budget allocation, which platforms to use — we can arrange a focused session. Book a consultation and I’ll scope it properly.
