When you need a consultant, not an agency

Not every Hertfordshire business needs full-service management. Some already have someone running their Google Ads — an in-house team, a junior marketer, or a generalist agency — and what they actually need is a senior pair of eyes checking the strategy.

That’s where consultancy comes in. I work with marketing teams, business owners, and founders who want accountability and expertise without handing over the keys. You keep control. I keep you on track.

What PPC consultancy can look like

12 years in the room — not on the phone to it

I’ve been managing Google Ads directly since the platform looked completely different. I’m not citing case studies from my colleagues — I’ve personally managed over £2M in Google Ads spend across ecommerce and home services, and I hold both Google Partner and Microsoft Ads certifications.

In Hertfordshire specifically, I’ve seen the pressures that come with London-adjacent markets: high CPCs, competitive local service auctions, and home improvement sectors where one mis-targeted campaign can burn budget in days. Advisory work here has to be grounded in the reality of the market.

I won't tell you what you want to hear

If your Google Ads strategy is sound, I’ll tell you. If your agency is doing a good job, I’ll say that too. Consultancy only works if the advice is honest. I’m not trying to sell you into full management — I’m trying to give you clarity on what’s actually going on.

How consultancy engagements typically work

  1. Consultation callWe talk through your current situation, what you’re trying to achieve, and where the uncertainty or frustration lies. I’ll tell you what kind of engagement makes sense.
  2. Scoping and proposalI put together a clear scope — what we’ll cover, how often we’ll work together, and what I’ll deliver. Priced on a call, tailored to your needs.
  3. Engagement beginsWhether it’s regular strategy sessions, an account review, or acting as your fractional PPC lead — we get into the detail and start producing clarity.
  4. Ongoing or project-basedSome engagements are one-off projects. Others are ongoing advisory relationships. We structure it to match what you actually need.

Who I work with as a PPC consultant

Most of my consultancy clients fall into a few categories: ecommerce businesses with in-house teams who need senior Google Ads oversight; home services and trades companies scaling up and needing a smarter paid strategy; and businesses across Hertfordshire who’ve been burned by an agency and want an independent view before committing to another one.

If you’re based anywhere in Hertfordshire — or across the neighbouring counties of Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Essex or Cambridgeshire — I work remotely and can be as involved as you need.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a PPC consultant and a PPC agency?

An agency manages campaigns on your behalf. A consultant works with you — advising, reviewing, or providing fractional senior input — while you or your team retain day-to-day control. Some Hertfordshire businesses are better served by one than the other.

Can you review work my current agency is doing?

Yes. This is one of the most common consultancy requests I receive. I’ll review your account structure, spend patterns, tracking and reporting, and give you an honest, independent assessment — including whether your agency is doing a good job.

Do you offer one-off strategy sessions for Hertfordshire businesses?

Yes. If you need a focused session to work through a specific challenge — a new campaign launch, a budget reallocation, or an underperforming keyword strategy — we can scope that on a call.

How much does PPC consultancy cost?

Pricing is tailored to the scope and structure of the engagement. The anchor is from £300/month for ongoing advisory work. Project-based or one-off work is quoted on a call.

What sectors do you advise on?

My primary areas are ecommerce/D2C and home services/trades — both well-represented across Hertfordshire. Outside those niches, it depends on the brief — book a call and I’ll be straight about whether I’m the right fit.

Can you train my in-house team?

Yes. Knowledge transfer and training is a formal part of my consultancy offer. If your team can execute but needs stronger strategic direction or technical understanding, I can work with them directly.
